Starter Motor Replacement





REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
2. Remove the retaining nut and the positive (+) battery cable (1) from the starter solenoid.
3. Disconnect the starter solenoid electrical connector.
4. Remove one nut, the upper mounting bolt and the negative (-) battery cable (3) from the starter motor assembly.
5. Remove the lower mounting nut (3) and the starter motor assembly from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Install the starter motor assembly to the vehicle. Secure with the lower mounting nut.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Connect the negative (-) battery cable to the starter motor assembly. Secure with the upper mounting bolt and the retaining nut.
Tighten
Tighten the starter motor assembly lower mounting nut and the upper mounting bolt and retaining nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
3. Connect the positive (+) battery cable (2) to the starter solenoid. Secure with one nut.
Tighten
Tighten the starter solenoid nut to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
4. Connect the starter solenoid electrical connector.
5. Connect the negative (-) battery cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
Tighten
Tighten the negative (-) battery cable-to-negative (-) battery terminal retainer to 5.5 N.m (48.68 lb in).
