Knock Sensor: Service and Repair

Knock Sensor Replacement


REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
4. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the Bank 1 Knock Sensor.




5. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the Bank 2 Knock Sensor.




6. Remove the Knock Sensor from engine block.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





IMPORTANT: Do Not apply thread sealant to sensor threads. Sensor is coated at the factory and applying additional sealant will affect the sensor's ability to detect detonation.

1. Hand start the Knock Sensor into the engine block.

Tighten
Tighten the Knock Sensor to 19 N.m (14 lb ft).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




2. Connect the wiring harness connector to the Bank 1 Knock Sensor.




3. Connect the wiring harness connector to the Bank 2 Knock Sensor.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
