System Check - Starting

Before removing any component in the cranking circuit for repair, the following checks should be made.

Check the condition of the battery. Refer to Battery Load Test and Battery (Parasitic) Load Test. Testing and Inspection An inspection should be made for wiring damage. Inspect connections to the starter motor, solenoid, ignition switch, and battery, including all ground points. Clean and tighten all connections as required.

Inspect to determine the condition of the starter solenoid and ignition switch. Inspect the starter motor. If the battery, wiring, and switches are in satisfactory condition, and the engine is known to be functioning properly, remove the motor from the vehicle and follow the procedures shown in Starter No Load Test.
