Heater Core: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Remove the fuel injector sight shield if equipped with 3.8L.
2. Drain the coolant.
3. Disconnect both of the heater hoses at the heater core.
4. Remove the LH and RH instrument panel insulators.
5. Remove the knee bolster bracket.
6. Remove the instrument panel compartment.
7. If equipped remove the front floor console.
8. Remove the lower heater duct bolts.
9. Remove the lower heater duct.




10. Remove the heater core cover bolts.
11. Remove the heater core cover.




12. Remove the heater core tube strap bolts.
13. Remove the heater core bolt and bracket.
14. Remove the heater core.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the heater core.
2. Install the bracket and straps to the heater core:

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the heater core bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the heater core bracket/strap bolts to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in).




4. Install the heater core cover.
5. Install the heater core cover bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the heater core cover bolts to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in).




6. Install the lower heat duct.
7. Install the lower heat duct bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the lower heat duct bolts to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in).

8. Install the instrument panel compartment.
9. Install the knee bolster bracket.
10. Install the LH and RH instrument panel insulators.
11. If equipped install the front floor console.
12. Connect both of the heater hoses at the heater core.
13. Refill the cooling system.
14. Install the fuel injector sight shield if equipped with 3.8L.
