Fuel Filter: Service and Repair




In-Line Fuel Filter Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Service and Repair.




3. Remove the fuel feed and return pipes (1,2) at the filter (4).

Important: If the in-line filter is plugged, inspect the fuel tank internally and clean the filter if necessary. Refer to Fuel System Cleaning Service and Repair.


4. Remove the in-line filter clamp attaching hardware from the compartment box bracket (3).
5. Remove the clamp from the filter (4).

Installation Procedure

1. Remove the protective caps from the new filter.




2. Install the clamp on to the filter (4).
3. Install the in-line filter clamp attaching hardware.
Install the filter (4) in same positions as on the old filter observing the direction of the fuel flow arrow on to the compartment box bracket (3).
4. Install the fuel feed and return pipes (1,2) to the filter.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
6. Inspect for fuel leaks using the following procedure:

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON position for 2 seconds.
2. Turn the ignition switch to OFF for 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON position.
4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
