Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Hardware Attachment Threadlocking

All door hardware production attaching screws contain an epoxy thread-locking compound in order to maintain the minimum original torque setting. Service attaching screws may not contain a thread-locking compound. Apply GM P/N 12345493 (or equivalent) to the hardware attachment as a liquid in order to treat the threads of fasteners for the following reasons:
^ In order to prevent loosening of service screws
^ In order to renew the thread-locking characteristics of production screws
After you install and tighten the screws, the adhesive cures. The curing process is necessary for the following reasons:
^ In order to bond the attachment to the screw
^ In order to prevent loosening of the screw
^ In order to prevent backing out of the screw The adhesive bond does not prevent future attachment removal if required. You may use LOCTITE(TM) 272 (or equivalent) on any thread fastener.
