Steering Wheel

Removal Procedure

- Tools Required
- J 1859-A Steering Wheel Puller

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
3. Remove the steering wheel inflatable restraint module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
4. Remove the steering wheel nut (1).





5. Remove the steering wheel using the J 1859-A.





6. Remove the steering wheel (2) from the steering column (3).

Installation Procedure





1. Install the steering wheel (2) to the column (3).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the steering wheel nut (1).
Tighten the steering wheel nut to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
4. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
