Ground Strap: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Remove the ground strap nut from the stud on the LH side of the frame.
This is located on the frame directly below the vacuum brake booster.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
3. Remove the ground strap bolt from the engine block.
The ground strap bolt is located on the:
^ Left side of the engine block
^ Rear of the exhaust manifold
^ Inboard of the heated oxygen sensor
4. Remove the ground strap from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




1. Install the ground strap and the engine wiring harness ground terminal to the engine block.
2. Orient the ground strap and the engine wiring harness ground terminals between 3 o'clock and 6 o'clock on the engine block.

Tighten
Tighten the ground strap bolt to the engine block to 32 N.m (24 lb ft).

3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Install the ground strap terminal to the stud on the left hand frame rail.
5. Install the ground strap stud nut to the stud in the left hand frame rail.

Tighten
Tighten the ground strap stud nut to 8 N.m (71 lb in).
