Ball Joint

Ball Stud and Knuckle Inspection
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Check ball stud tightness to the knuckle when inspecting the ball stud.
3. Check ball stud tightness in the following manner:
- Shake the tire and wheel assembly while feeling for movement of the stud end at the knuckle
- Visually inspect for an opened-up hole in the knuckle
4. Visually inspect for worn ball studs.
5. Visually inspect for damaged ball studs.
6. Visually inspect for worn knuckles.
7. Visually inspect for damaged knuckles.
8. Repair or replace any damaged component.
9. Lower the vehicle.
