Shift Cable: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Ensure that the transmission is in the mechanical neutral position.
^ Rotate the transmission control lever clockwise until it reaches the full clockwise stop position.
^ Move the shift lever counterclockwise two detents.
2. Remove the clip that secures the shift cable to the steering column bracket.
3. Remove the shift cable end from the steering column shift controller stud ball.
4. Rase the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.





5. Remove the shift cable from the transmission bracket.
6. Remove the shift cable end from the transmission shift lever stud ball.
7. Remove the grommet from the hole in the floor panel.
8. Remove the cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





1. Ensure that the transmission is in the mechanical neutral position.
^ Rotate the transmission control lever clockwise until it reaches the full clockwise stop position.
^ Move the shift lever counterclockwise two detents.
2. Connect the shift cable end to the steering column shift controller stud ball.
3. Install the clip that secures the shift cable to the steering column bracket.
4. Feed the shift cable through the grommet hole.
5. Install the grommet.
6. Rase the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.





7. Install the shift cable to the transmission bracket.





8. Remove the shipping tag from around the adjusting button.





9. Push the button on the shift cable end out.
10. Position the shift cable end onto the transmission shift control lever.





11. Press the adjustment button in.
12. Position the button guard over the button.
