Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION
^ This vehicle has a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs. To help avoid that: (1) Refer to SIR Component Views to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. (2) If you are [performing service on or near SIR components or the SIR wiring], you must disable the SIR system, refer to Disabling the SIR System.
^ Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precaution may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components
.

1. Record all of the vehicle preset radio stations. Refer to Radio/Audio System Operation.
2. Record the customer's radio Theftlock(R) code (if applicable). Refer to Radio/Audio System Operation.
3. Turn OFF all the lamps and the accessories.
4. Make sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position.
5. Remove the LH diagonal brace.
6. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly.






7. Disconnect the battery negative cable (1) from the battery.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions

IMPORTANT: Clean any existing oxidation from the contact face of the battery terminal and battery cable using a wire brush before installing the battery cable to the battery terminal.






1. Connect the battery negative cable (1) to the battery.

Tighten
Tighten the battery negative terminal bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).

2. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly.
3. Install the LH diagonal brace.
4. Unlock the Theftlock(R) radio (if applicable). Refer to Radio/Audio System Operation.
5. Program the radio stations back into the radio as recorded at the beginning of the procedure. Refer to Radio/Audio System Operation.
6. Set the clock to the current time. Refer to Radio/Audio System Operation.
