Starter Motor Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.




1. Remove the negative (-) battery cable from the battery.
2. Remove the retaining nut and the positive (+) battery cable from the starter solenoid.
3. Disconnect the solenoid electrical connector.
4. Remove two mounting bolts (3) and the starter motor assembly (1) from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




1. Install the starter motor assembly (1) to the vehicle. Secure the assembly with two mounting bolts (3).

Tighten
Tighten the starter motor assembly mounting bolts to 23 N.m (17 lb ft).

2. Connect the solenoid electrical connector.
3. Connect the positive (+) battery cable to the solenoid. Secure the cable with a retaining nut.

Tighten
Tighten the positive (+) battery cable-to-solenoid retaining nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

4. Install the negative (-) battery cable.

Tighten
Tighten the negative (-) battery cable-to-negative (-) battery terminal retainer to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
