Generator Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION:
^ Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices
^ Failure to observe Step 1 may result in a serious personal injury. If a tool is shorted at the generator lead, the tool will become hot enough to cause a serious burn.





1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
2. Loosen the belt tension by turning the drive belt tensioner clockwise.
3. Remove the drive belt.




4. Disconnect the wire clamp from the wire clip on the rectifier end frame.
5. Remove the following:
^ The rubber cap
^ The nut
6. Disconnect the following components:
^ The generator wire
^ The generator connector




7. Remove the following components:
^ The two bolts
^ The generator (1)

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the generator (1) to the vehicle. Secure the generator with the two generator mounting bolts.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the upper and lower mounting bolts.

Tighten
^ Tighten the upper bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
^ Tighten the lower bolt to 54 N.m (40 lb ft).




3. Connect the generator connector.
4. Connect the generator wire.
5. Install the following parts:
^ The nut
^ The rubber cap
6. Install the wire clamp to the wire clip on the rectifier end frame.




7. Install the drive belt.
^ Visually inspect the drive belt for wear and damage.
^ Minor cracks on the ribbed side of the belt are considered acceptable. Replace the belt if pieces are missing from the ribs.
^ Ensure that the belt tensioner moves downward when the belt is pressed down in the center with a force of approximately 98 N (22 lb).
8. Connect the negative (-) battery cable.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
