Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair

ACCUMULATOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the A/C pressure switch (4.3L only).
3. Disconnect the evaporator tube from the accumulator.
4. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the accumulator.
5. Remove the O-ring seals and discard.




6. Remove the accumulator clamp bolt.
7. Remove the accumulator.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the accumulator into the accumulator clamp.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the accumulator clamp bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the accumulator clamp bolt to 10 N.m (88 lb in).

3. Install the pressure cycling switch.




4. Install new O-ring seals.
5. Connect the evaporator tube to the accumulator (2).
6. Connect the electrical connector to the A/C pressure switch (4.3L only).
7. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
