Oil Filter: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure
1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Place an appropriate drain pan under the engine.





3. Remove the oil pan drain plug bolt.





4. Remove the oil filter.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the oil filter.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





2. Install the oil pan drain plug bolt.
^ Tighten the oil pan drain plug bolt to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Fill the engine with oil to the appropriate mark.

Important: Oil capacity with oil and filter change is 3.7 liters (3.9 quarts) Oil capacity with oil change only is 3.5 liters (3.7 quarts)

5. Start engine and check for leaks.

Draining Fluids and Oil Filter Removal
1. Place an appropriate drain pan under the engine.





2. Remove the oil pan drain bolt and allow oil to drain from the oil pan.





3. Remove the oil filter.
4. Remove coolant jacket drain plug and allow coolant to drain from the water jacket.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install oil pan drain bolt and the coolant jacket plug.
^ Tighten the Oil Pan Drain Bolt to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the Water Jacket Plug to 25 Nm (18 1b ft.).

6. If cleaning or repairing the engine block it is not necessary to reinstall the plugs.
