Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: If the in-line filter is plugged, the fuel tank should be inspected internally and cleaned if necessary.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
3. Disconnect the fuel feed pipes (5) at the filter (4).
4. Remove the attaching hardware from the in-line fuel filter clamp.
5. Remove the clamp from the filter.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Remove the protective caps from the new filter.
2. Install the clamp to the filter.
3. Install the attaching hardware to the in-line filter clamp. Install the hardware in the same positions as on the old filter noting the direction of fuel flow arrow.
4. Connect the fuel feed pipes (5) to the filter (4) and tighten.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
6. Inspect for fuel leaks.
6.1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
6.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
6.3. Again, turn the ignition to the ON position.
6.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
