Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Service and Repair

ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

NOTE: Use care when handling the coolant sensor. Damage to the coolant sensor will affect the operation of the fuel control system.




1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Drain the cooling system below the level of the ECT sensor. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
3. Disconnect the ECT electrical connector (2).
4. Remove the ECT electrical connector from the bracket (1).
5. Remove the ECT sensor (3).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Coat the threads with sealer P/N 9985253 or equivalent.

NOTE: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the ECT sensor (3)

Tighten
Tighten the ECT sensor to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

3. Connect the ECT electrical connector to the bracket (1).
4. Connect the ECT harness connector (2) to the ECT sensor (3).
5. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
