Oil Pump: Service and Repair

Oil Pump Replacement

^ Tools Required
- J 25087-C Oil Pressure Tester

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the oil pan.
2. Remove the oil pump to rear main bearing cap bolt.
3. Remove the oil pump.





4. Remove the extension shaft and the retainer.

Installation Procedure





1. Heat the retainer in hot water.

Important: Be sure the retainer does not crack upon installation.

2. Install the retainer to the extension shaft.





3. Install the extension to the oil pump.





4. Install the oil pump.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the oil pump to rear main bearing cap bolt.
^ Tighten the bolt to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the oil pan.
7. Remove the oil pressure sending unit.
8. Install the J 25087-C.
9. Start the engine and observe the oil pressure.
10. Check for bearing knock. If necessary, dismantle and check for adequate oil supply and proper clearances.
