Brake Light Switch: Adjustments

Stop Lamp Switch Adjustment

Notice: Proper stoplamp switch adjustment is essential. Improper stoplamp switch adjustment may cause brake drag, heat buildup and excessive brake lining wear.

Important: Adjust the stop lamp switch and the cruise control release at the same time. The adjustment procedures for the stop lamp switch and the cruise control release switch are identical.

1. With the brake pedal fully released, ensure that the stop lamp plunger is fully depressed against the brake pedal shanks.

2. Insert the stop lamp switch (1) and the cruise control switch (3), if equipped, into the brake pedal bracket (2).

3. Push the brake pedal forward in order to set the brake push rod into the booster.

4. Pull the brake pedal to the rear, against the internal stop. The stop lamp switch and the cruise control switch will be adjusted.
5. Inspect the stop lamps for proper operation.
