Engine - Oil Capacity Correction

File In Section: 00 - General Information

Bulletin No.: 01-00-90-002

Date: November, 2001

INFORMATION

Subject:
Achieving Correct Oil Level and Crankcase Capacity Revision

Models:
2002 Chevrolet Cavalier
2002 Oldsmobile Alero
2002 Pontiac Grand Am, Sunfire
with 2.2L Ecotech Engine (VIN Code F - RPO L61)

Oil Fill Capacity

The crankcase oil fill capacity was incorrectly listed in the first printing of the 2002 Owner's Manual and the SI 2000 Service Information as 5.5 L (5.8 qts) which may result in a slight overfill condition. The correct oil fill capacity is 4.75 L (5.0 qts). This information is being updated in SI 2000 and future printings of the Owner's Manual.

Draining and Refilling Engine Oil

Important:
When changing the oil on vehicles equipped with this engine, remove the oil fill cap and/or the oil filter cap prior to removing the oil pan drain plug.

Keeping the caps in place may create a vacuum effect that can slow the draining process. Allow sufficient time for thorough draining of the engine oil.
