Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair

ACCUMULATOR REPLACEMENT

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Recover the refrigerant.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.




3. Loosen the suction hose nut at the accumulator.
4. Remove the suction hose from the accumulator.




5. Loosen the A/C compressor hose nut from the accumulator.
6. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the accumulator.




7. Remove the accumulator bracket bolt.
8. Remove the accumulator.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. If replacing the accumulator, add refrigerant oil to the accumulator.




2. Install the accumulator.
3. Install the accumulator bracket bolt.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 4 N.m (36 lb in).

4. Install new O-ring seals onto the A/C compressor hose and the suction hose.




5. Install the A/C compressor hose to the accumulator.
6. Install the A/C compressor hose nut to the accumulator.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).




7. Connect the suction hose to the accumulator
8. Tighten the suction hose nut.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).

9. Install the air cleaner assembly.
10. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system.
11. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A.
