Convertible Top Strut: Service and Repair



FOLDING TOP LIFT ASSIST STRUT REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: When a folding top hold open device is being removed or installed, ensure the folding top is fully latched into the windshield header to avoid personal injury.

1. Cycle the folding top stowage compartment lid open.
2. Stop the cycle before the front panel unlatches from the windshield header.
3. Place a protective cover on all adjacent body panels.




4. Gently pry up on the upper retaining clip in order to remove the lift assist strut from the upper ball stud on the side rail assembly.




5. Gently pry up on the lower retaining clip in order to remove the lift assist strut from the lower ball stud on the side rail assembly.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Align the folding top lift assist strut to the ball studs on the side rail assembly.




2. Push on the lower end of the lift assist strut on the lower ball stud on the side rail assembly. Install the retaining clip.




3. Push on the upper end of the lift assist strut on the upper ball stud on the side rail assembly. Install the retaining clip.
4. Remove the protective covers from the quarter panels.
5. Inspect the folding top for proper operation.
