Assist Step Support Bracket Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.




2. If you are replacing one assist step support bracket, remove the assist step nut. If you are replacing more than one assist step support bracket, remove the assist step. Refer to Assist Step Replacement (Assist Step Replacement) .
3. Remove the assist step support bracket to assist step support inner bracket bolts.
4. Remove the assist step support bracket from the vehicle.
5. If you are replacing the assist step support inner brackets, perform the following steps.

1. Mark the location of the assist step support inner brackets with a grease pencil.
2. Drill out the assist step support inner bracket rivets.
3. Remove the assist step support inner bracket from the vehicle.




Installation Procedure

1. If you are replacing the assist step support inner brackets, perform the following steps.

1. Align the assist step support inner bracket with the marks made with a grease pencil.
2. Using new rivets, install the assist step support inner bracket to the vehicle.





2. Position the assist step support bracket to the assist step support inner bracket.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

3. Install the assist step support bracket bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

4. If you are replacing one assist step support bracket, install the assist step nut.

Tighten the assist step nut to10 N.m (89 lb in).

5. If you are replacing more than one assist step support bracket, install the assist step. Refer to Assist Step Replacement (Assist Step Replacement) .
6. Lower the vehicle.
