Removal and Replacement




Variable Effort Steering Actuator Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the power steering pump from the engine. To remove the actuator, it is necessary that the power steering pump be removed from the engine. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement (Gasoline Engine) Power Steering Pump Replacement (Gasoline Engine) for removal of the power steering pump from the engine.

Important:
Note the positioning of the electrical connector and discharge fitting before removal. Noted positions will be used during installation.


2. Remove the position-retaining clip from the power steering pump actuator.

3. Remove the actuator and discharge fitting from the power steering pump.

4. Remove and discard the actuator O-rings.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the discharge fitting and power steering pump actuator with new O-rings to the power steering pump.

Notice:
Refer to Fastener Notice Fastener Notice.

2. Position the discharge fitting to noted location during disassembly.

Tighten the actuator to 62 Nm (46 lb ft).

3. Install the position-retaining clip to the actuator using noted connector positioning during disassembly.

4. Install the power steering pump to the engine. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement (Gasoline Engine) Power Steering Pump Replacement (Gasoline Engine).

5. Connect the actuator electrical connector.

6. Perform the Diagnostic System Check.
