Brake Pad: Testing and Inspection




Brake Pad Inspection

Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution Vehicle Lifting Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair in General Information.
2. Remove the wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair in Tires and Wheels.
3. Visually check the brake pad linings for minimum thickness and wear.




4. Measure the thickness.

* The minimum thickness of the inner or the outer front brake pad is 8 mm (0.31 inch).
* The minimum thickness of the inner or the outer rear brake pad is 2 mm (0.08 inch).

5. Install the brake pads in axle sets only.
6. Install the wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair in Tires and Wheels.
7. Lower the vehicle.
