Rear Housing Disassemble

Tools Required

^ J 23907 Slide Hammer
^ J 26941 Bearing and Bushing Remover





1. If 2WD vehicle, using J 26941 and J 23907, remove the slip yoke seal.





2. If 4WD vehicle, remove the bolts and the main shaft rear bearing retainer from the rear case.





3. If 4WD vehicle, use a brass drift to remove the main shaft rear bearing from the rear case.





4. Important:
The shift shaft rear bushing in the rear case is not serviceable.

Using the J 23907, remove the rear case shift shaft bushing. The shift shaft bushing may come out without having to use the J 23907.





5. Inspect the countershaft rear bearing race. Refer to Front and Rear Housings Cleaning and Inspection.
6. If the bearing is faulty, use a suitable blind hole puller and a slide hammer to remove the bearing race.
