Flywheel: Service and Repair



Engine Flywheel Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the automatic transmission, if equipped.
2. Remove the clutch, if equipped.
3. Remove the flywheel bolts.
4. Remove the flywheel (1 or 2).

5. If equipped with a manual transmission, note the position of any flywheel weights for assembly.
6. Clean and inspect the flywheel, if necessary. Refer to Engine Flywheel Cleaning and Inspection.

Installation Procedure

Flywheel:





1. Important: If replacing the flywheel on a manual transmission, note the position and length of the original flywheel weights (if applicable). Flywheel weights of the same length must be installed into the NEW flywheel in the same location as the old weights were in the old flywheel.

Note the position of the old flywheel weights and install the NEW flywheel weights as required. A properly installed flywheel weight will be flush or slightly below flush with the face of the flywheel.





2. Install the flywheel (1 or 2). Align the flywheel locator hole to the flywheel locator pin.





3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the flywheel bolts.
Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the clutch, if equipped.
5. Install the automatic transmission, if equipped.
