Drum Brake Adjusting Hardware Replacement

Tools Required

J 21177-A Drum to Brake Shoe Clearance Gage

Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution (Brake Dust Caution) .




1. Release the park brake.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair) .
3. Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement (Removal and Replacement) .
4. Adjust the brake shoe to the lowest setting.




5. Remove the adjuster spring.




6. Remove the brake adjuster lever.




7. Remove the adjuster assembly.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the adjuster assembly.




2. Install the adjuster lever.




3. Install the adjuster spring.




4. Using the J 21177-A (1), measure the rear brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Diameter Measurement (Brake Drum Diameter Measurement) .
5. Adjust the rear drum brakes. Refer to Drum Brake Adjustment (Adjustments) .




6. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement (Removal and Replacement) .
7. Lower the vehicle.
