Air Cleaner Housing: Service and Repair




Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
2. Remove the coolant reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement Service and Repair.
3. Remove the left front sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement (Chevrolet) Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement (Chevrolet)Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement (Pontiac) Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement (Pontiac).
4. Remove the air cleaner side cover and the air cleaner element. Refer to Air Cleaner Element Replacement Service and Repair.
5. Remove the air cleaner upper cover bolts and the air cleaner upper cover.
6. Remove and reposition the powertrain control module (PCM) with the wiring harness.




7. Remove the air cleaner bolts and the air cleaner.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the air cleaner.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

2. Install the air cleaner bolts and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
3. Install the PCM and the wiring harness to the air cleaner.
4. Install the air cleaner side cover and element. Refer to Air Cleaner Element Replacement Service and Repair.




5. Install the air cleaner upper cover and the upper cover bolts and tighten to 4 Nm (35 lb in).
6. Install the left front sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement (Chevrolet) Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement (Chevrolet)Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement (Pontiac) Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement (Pontiac).
7. Install the coolant reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement Service and Repair.
8. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
