Exhaust Heat Shield Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (Service and Repair).
2. To aid in removal, spray a non petroleum based lubricant onto the insulators.
3. Remove the insulators from the resonator pipe and the muffler.
4. Using a suitable jack stand for support, lower the resonator pipe and the muffler for clearance.




5. Drill out and remove the 4 heat shield rivets (1).
6. Remove the heat shield nut (2).
7. Remove the heat shield.

Installation Procedure




1. Position the heat shield to the underbody.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the heat shield nut (2).

Tighten the nut to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

3. Install 4 NEW heat shield rivets (1).




4. To aid in installation, spray a non petroleum based lubricant onto the insulators.
5. Raise the resonator pipe and the muffler to the insulators and attach.
6. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (Service and Repair).
