Rear Brake Caliper Hardware Replacement (LFX)
Removal Procedure
Warning:
Refer to Brake Dust Warning Brake Dust Warning.
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w RT2) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w RT2)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w/o RT2) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w/o RT2).
Note:
The brake caliper guide pin bolts must be replaced any time they are removed. Do not reuse the brake caliper guide pin bolts.
3. Using a backup wrench on the brake caliper guide pin, remove and discard the brake caliper guide pin bolts (1).
Caution:
Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.
4. Remove the brake caliper (1) and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent.
5. Remove the inner brake pad (1).
6. Remove the outer brake pad (2).
7. Remove the brake pad springs (1).
8. Remove the 2 brake caliper guide pin seals (1) and guide pins (2).
Installation Procedure
1. Inspect the brake caliper guide pins, seals and brake pad springs for damage and/or corrosion. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection Rear Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection.
2. Apply a thin coat of high temperature silicone brake lubricant the brake caliper guide pins.
3. Install the 2 brake caliper guide pin seals (1) to the guide pins (2).
4. Ensure the guide pin seals are fully seated in the groove of the brake caliper guide pins.
5. Install the 2 guide pins and seals to the brake caliper bracket.
6. Ensure the guide pin seal is fully seated in the groove of the brake caliper bracket.
7. Install the brake pad springs (1).
8. Install the inner brake pad (1).
9. Install the outer brake pad (2).
10. Install the brake caliper (1) to the brake caliper bracket.
Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
Note:
The brake caliper guide pin bolts must be replaced any time they are removed.
11. Using a backup wrench on the brake caliper guide pins, install 2 new brake caliper guide pin bolts (1) and tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).
12. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w RT2) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w RT2)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w/o RT2) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (w/o RT2).
