Engine Coolant Inlet Pipe Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning:
Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning Battery Disconnect Warning.


1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary).

2. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement.

3. Remove the front air deflector.

Warning:
Refer to Radiator Cap Removal Warning Service Precautions.


4. Ensure the engine temperature is below 50°C before removing the radiator cap.

Danger:
To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.


Warning:

5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

Note:
Store used coolant in the correct manner, such as in a used engine coolant holding tank. Do not pour used coolant down a drain. Ethylene glycol antifreeze is a very toxic chemical. Do not dispose of coolant into the sewer system or ground water. This is illegal and ecologically unsound.

6. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling Cooling System Draining and Filling.

7. Remove the right side catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LFX) .





Note:
Use an appropriate tool to release the radiator outlet hose to engine coolant inlet pipe retaining clamp (1).

8. Detach the radiator outlet hose from the engine coolant inlet pipe (3).

9. Remove the engine coolant inlet pipe to generator bracket retaining nut (2).

10. Detach the engine coolant inlet pipe (3) from the generator bracket.

11. Lower vehicle.





12. Remove the engine coolant inlet pipe to thermostat housing retaining bolt (1).

13. Remove the engine coolant inlet pipe (2) from the thermostat housing (4).

Note:
The engine coolant inlet pipe O-ring (3) is a single use part and must be discarded after removal.

14. Remove the engine coolant inlet pipe O-ring (3) form the engine coolant inlet pipe (2).

Note:
The engine coolant inlet pipe (2) is removed between the cross member and radiator from underneath the vehicle.

15. Remove the engine coolant inlet pipe (2) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





1. Ensure all mating surfaces are thoroughly cleaned, using only a fine abrasive material.

Note:
A NEW engine coolant inlet pipe O-ring must be installed to the engine coolant inlet pipe (2).

2. Install the engine coolant inlet pipe O-ring (3) to the engine coolant inlet pipe (2).

3. Install the engine coolant inlet pipe (2) to the vehicle.

Note:
Lubricate the engine coolant inlet pipe O-ring with clean coolant prior to installation.

4. Install the engine coolant inlet pipe (2) to the thermostat housing (4).

Note:
Do not tighten at this stage.

5. Install the engine coolant inlet pipe to the thermostat housing retaining bolt (1).

6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.





7. Attach the engine coolant inlet pipe (3) to the generator bracket.

Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

8. Install the engine coolant inlet pipe to generator bracket retaining nut (2) and tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).

Caution:
Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Caution Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Caution.

9. Attach the radiator outlet hose to the engine coolant inlet pipe (3).

Note:
Use an appropriate tool to release the radiator outlet hose to engine coolant inlet pipe retaining clamp (1).

10. Secure the radiator outlet hose to engine coolant inlet pipe retaining clamp (1).

11. Tighten the engine coolant inlet pipe to the thermostat housing retaining bolt to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).

12. Install the front air deflector.

13. Install the right side catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LFX) .

14. Lower the vehicle.

15. Install the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement.

16. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling Cooling System Draining and Filling.

17. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary).

18. Inspect the cooling system for coolant leaks and repair as necessary.
