24. Oil Pan Removal




Oil Pan Removal

Removal Procedure





Note:

* The original oil pan gasket is retained and aligned to the oil pan by rivets. When installing a new gasket, it is not necessary to install new oil pan gasket rivets.

* DO NOT use the oil pan gasket again. When installing the oil pan, install a NEW oil pan gasket.

1. Remove the left side close out cover to cylinder block retaining bolt (2).

2. Remove the left side close out (1).





3. Remove the right side close out cover to cylinder block retaining bolt (2).

4. Remove the right side close out (1).





5. Remove the oil pan to cylinder block retaining bolts (1).

6. Remove the oil pan (2).





Note:

* DO NOT allow foreign material to enter the oil passages of the oil pan. Cap or cover the openings, as required.

* Use care not to gouge, score, or damage the oil pan sealing surface.

7. Drill (3) out the retaining rivets, if required.

Note:
The oil pan gasket and rivets are single use only components and must be replaced whenever the oil pan is removed from the cylinder block.

8. Remove the oil pan gasket (1) from the oil pan.

Discard the gasket and rivets.
