Exhaust Manifold Installation - Left Side (Except HSV)

Warning:

1. Install the exhaust manifold (2), NEW exhaust manifold gasket (1) and sealing ring (3).





2. Apply a 5 mm (0.2 in) wide band of threadlock, or equivalent, to the threads of the exhaust manifold to cylinder head retaining bolts (1). Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers.

Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

3. Install the exhaust manifold to cylinder head retaining bolts (1).

* First Pass: Tighten the bolts to 15 Nm (11 lb ft). Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts beginning with the centre 2 bolts. Alternate from side-to-side, and work toward the outside bolts.

* Final Pass: Tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb ft). Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts beginning with the centre 2 bolts. Alternate from side-to-side, and work toward the outside bolts.

4. Using a flat punch, bend over the exposed edge of the exhaust manifold gasket at the rear of the left cylinder head.





5. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield (1).

6. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield to exhaust manifold retaining bolts (2).

Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
