Mainshaft






DISASSEMBLE
1. From rear of mainshaft, remove snap ring and slide rear bearing retainer from mainshaft.

2. Remove rear bearing snap ring and washer.





3. From front of mainshaft, remove snap ring, then remove 3-4 synchronizer assembly and 3rd gear.

4. Support forward face of 2nd gear and press mainshaft from rear then remove the rear bearing, thrust washer, 1st gear and bushing, 1-2 synchronizer and 2nd gear.


ASSEMBLE
1. From rear of mainshaft, install 2nd gear with hub facing rearward.

2. Position synchronizing rings on 1-2 synchronizer, then install synchronizer on mainshaft with hub facing forward.





3. Press 1st gear bushing on mainshaft until 2nd gear, 1-2 synchronizer and bushing are against mainshaft shoulder.





4. Install 1st gear and inner race with gear hub facing front, then press rear bearing on mainshaft with snap ring groove facing front.

5. Install spacer and selective thickness snap ring.

NOTE: Use the thickest snap ring that will fit in mainshaft groove.

6. Install 3rd gear with hub facing front and the 3rd gear synchronizing ring with notches facing front.

7. Install 3rd and 4th gear clutch assembly with the taper facing front.

NOTE: Ensure that keys in hub mate with notches in 3rd gear synchronizing ring.

8. Install selective thickness snap ring, use thickness snap ring that will fit mainshaft groove.





9. Install locating pin in rear bearing retainer, then place bearing retainer over rear of mainshaft, spread retainer snap ring and align with groove in rear bearing.





10. Using heavy grease, install 16 rollers and washer into bore of main drive gear.

11. Position 4th gear synchronizer ring on 3-4 synchronizer, aligning ring notches with hub keys.

12. Install front drive gear on main shaft.
