External Components

1. Install transmission holding tool No. J-8763-02 on transmission case then into holding tool No. J-3289-20.

2. Remove vacuum modulator retainer attaching bolt and the retainer then the modulator assembly and O-ring.

3. Using magnet, remove modulator valve from case.

4. Remove oil pan attaching bolts, then the oil pan, gasket and magnet.

5. Remove oil filter attaching bolt and the valve body to filter spacer, if equipped, then the filter, intake pipe and O-ring.

6. Remove manual detent spring and roller retaining bolt, then the manual detent spring and roller.

7. Remove valve body retaining bolts.

8. Remove governor oil pipes by moving them up from case and rotating them away from their holes.

9. Remove governor oil screen, if equipped, from inboard hole.

10. Remove valve body.

11. Disconnect electrical connector at solenoid, then remove solenoid attaching screws and the solenoid, being careful not to press against solenoid cover.

12. Remove valve body to spacer plate gasket, spacer plate and spacer plate to case gasket.

13. Use a magnet to remove seven check balls.

14. Remove front servo piston assembly, retainer and spring.

15. Remove rear servo attaching bolts, cover and gasket.

16. Remove rear servo accumulator assembly.
