Inspection

1. Inspect output shaft for damaged splines and worn or damaged governor drive gear teeth.

2. Inspect output shaft bushing for wear, galling or scoring. If replacement is necessary, proceed as follows:

a. Thread tool J-21465-16 or equivalent into bushing and, using tool J-2619 or equivalent, remove bushing.

b. Using tools J-21465-1 and J-8092, or equivalents, install bushing into place until tool bottoms.

3. Inspect speedometer drive gear for wear or cracks.

4. Inspect mainshaft bushings for scoring, damage or wear and the
mainshaft for cracks or damaged splines. If bushing replacement is necessary, proceed as follows:

a. Thread tool J-21465-16 or equivalent into bushing and, using tool J-2619 or equivalent, remove bushing.

b. Using tools J-21465-1 and J-8092, or equivalents, install bushing into place until tool bottoms.

5. Inspect rear internal gear for stripped splines, damaged teeth or cracks.

6. Inspect output carrier assembly for damaged lugs, pinion gear damage and excess pinion washer wear. Pinion endplay should be 0.009-0.024 inch.

7. Inspect front internal gear ring for damage or cracks.
