Circuit/System Testing

Important: Perform the Audio System Troubleshooting Hints to properly identify the customers concern before using this diagnostic. Audio System Troubleshooting Hints

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the antenna coaxial cable from the radio and antenna mast.

2. Test for less than 3.5 ohms between the radio end coaxial cable center conductor and the antenna end coaxial cable center conductor.

If greater than 3.5 ohms, replace the coaxial cable.

3. Test for infinite resistance between the coaxial cable center conductor and the metal outer shield.

If less than specified value, replace the coaxial cable.

4. Disconnect the radio antenna base harness connector.
5. Test for voltage at the radio ON signal circuit terminal 1.

If voltage is not present, repair open or short to ground or replace the radio.

6. Reconnect the antenna coaxial cable to the radio and the antenna base.
7. Ignition ON, observe the radio signal strength parameter with the scan tool.
8. Disconnect the radio antenna base harness connector and verify the signal strength decreases.

If signal strength did not decrease, replace the radio antenna base Fixed Antenna Replacement

9. If all circuits test normal, replace the radio. Radio Replacement
