Battery Positive and Negative Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Open the junction block terminal cover.
3. Remove the junction block terminal nut (1).
4. Remove the positive/negative battery cable terminal (2) from the junction block terminal stud.
5. Remove the positive/negative ground nut (3) from the tie bar stud.
6. Remove the positive/negative ground terminal (4) from the tie bar stud.
7. Remove the positive/negative battery cable clip (6) from the engine control module (ECM)/transaxle control module (TCM) bracket.
8. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.




9. If equipped with a automatic transaxle, perform the following steps, remove the positive/negative battery cable ground nut (2).
10. Remove the positive/negative cable ground terminal (1) from the transaxle stud.
11. Remove the starter solenoid nut (4).
12. Remove the positive/negative battery cable (3) from the starter.




13. If equipped with a manual transaxle, perform the following steps, remove the positive/negative battery cable ground nut (1).
14. Remove the positive/negative cable ground terminal (2) from the transaxle stud.
15. Remove the starter solenoid nut (4).
16. Remove the positive/negative battery cable (3) from the starter.

Installation Procedure




1. If equipped with a manual transaxle, perform the following steps, install the positive/negative battery cable (3) to the starter.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the starter solenoid nut (4).

Tighten the nut to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).

3. Install the positive/negative cable ground terminal (2) to the transaxle stud.
4. Install the positive/negative battery cable ground nut (1).

Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).




5. If equipped with a automatic transaxle, perform the following steps, install the positive/negative battery cable (3) to the starter.
6. Install the starter solenoid nut (4).

Tighten the nut to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).

7. Install the positive/negative cable ground terminal (1) to the transaxle stud.
8. Install the positive/negative battery cable ground nut (2).

Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

9. Lower the vehicle.




10. Install the positive/negative battery cable clip (6) to the ECM/TCM bracket.
11. Install the positive/negative ground terminal (4) to the tie bar stud.
12. Install the positive/negative ground nut (3) to the tie bar stud.
13. Install the positive/negative battery cable terminal (2) to the junction block terminal stud.
14. Install the junction block terminal nut (1).

Tighten the nut to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).

15. Close the junction block terminal cover.
16. Connect the negative battery cable.
