26. Use the J 43653 to prevent the crankshaft from rotating.

27. Use J 43653 to remove the torque converter to flywheel bolts.

28. Remove the transaxle oil cooler pipes retaining nut from the transaxle.
29. Remove the transaxle oil cooler pipes from the transaxle.

30. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) wiring harness from the sensor and harness retainer.
31. Remove the rear 02 wiring harness from the rear transmission mount bracket.
32. Remove the front transmission mount.
33. Lower the transmission with the engine support fixture enough to remove the transmission.
34. Raise the vehicle.
35. Support the transaxle with a suitable jack.

36. Remove the lower 6 transaxle to engine bolts (3-9).
37. Separate the engine and the transaxle.
38. Remove the transaxle from the vehicle.
39. Remove the PNP switch, if required.
40. Remove the transaxle electrical ground stud, if required.
41. Flush the transmission cooler and lines. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Flushing and Flow Test (J 45096) Transmission Fluid Cooler Flushing and Flow Test (J 35944-A).

Installation Procedure

1. Install the PNP switch, if removed.
2. Install the transaxle electrical ground stud, if removed.
3. Install the front transaxle mount to the transaxle.
4. Position the transaxle in the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

5. Install the lower 6 transaxle to engine bolts (3-9).

Tighten the bolts and nuts to 90 N.m (66 lb ft).

6. Install the ground strap.

7. Connect the transaxle cooler pipes to the transaxle and install the retaining nut.

Tighten the nut to 90 N.m (66 lb ft).

8. Connect the VSS wiring harness to the sensor.
9. Connect the rear O2 wiring harness to the rear transaxle bracket.
10. Use the J 43653 to prevent the crankshaft from rotating.

11. Install the torque converter to flywheel bolts.

Tighten the torque converter bolts to 62 N.m (46 lb ft).

12. Install the starter.

13. Install the transmission brace to transmission bolts (3).

Tighten the bolts to 72 N.m (53 lb ft).

14. Install the rear transaxle mount and bracket, if removed.
15. Install the wheel drive shafts to the transaxle.
16. Remove the transmission jack.
17. Install the frame.
18. Install the front wheel and tire assemblies.
19. Lower the vehicle.

20. Install the upper transaxle to engine bolt (2) and stud (1).

32. Fill the transmission. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check.

Important: It is recommended that the transmission adaptive pressure (TAP) information be reset.

Resetting the TAP values using a scan tool will erase all learned values in all cells. As a result, the ECM, PCM or TCM will need to relearn TAP values. Transmission performance may be affected as new TAP values are learned.

33. Reset the TAP values. Refer to Transmission Adaptive Functions.
