Disassembly

1. With caliper and shoes removed as described previously, place caliper onto the upper control arm and slowly depress brake pedal to hydraulically push piston from bore. The pedal will fall when piston passes bore opening.
2. Support pedal below first inch of pedal travel to prevent excessive fluid loss.
3. To remove piston from the opposite caliper, disconnect flexible brake line at frame bracket at vehicle side where piston has been removed previously and plug tube to prevent pressure loss. By depressing brake pedal this piston can also be hydraulically pushed out.
4. Mount caliper in a soft-jawed vise. Excessive vise pressure will distort caliper bore.

5. Remove the dust boot.
6. Insert a suitable tool such as a small, pointed wooden or plastic object between the cylinder bore and the seal and work seal out of the groove in the piston bore. A metal tool such as a screwdriver should not be used since it can cause damage to the piston bore or burr the edges of the seal groove.
