Valve Spring: Service and Repair

Cylinder Head Off Engine
1. Using suitable tool to hold valves in head, compress valve spring enough to remove and install valve bead locks, Fig. 29.



Cylinder Head On Engine
1. Rotate crankshaft until piston is at TDC on compression stroke.
2. Apply 90 - 100 psi of compressed air into spark plug hole of valve being removed.
3. Using suitable tool, compress valve spring enough to remove valve stem locks.
4. Remove valve spring and spring seat.
5. Remove valve seal.
