Balance Shaft: Adjustments

1. Install silent shaft chain drive pulley onto crankshaft.
2. Install silent shaft chain onto oil pump sprocket and silent shaft sprocket, Fig. 12.
3. Ensure timing marks are aligned. Timing marks on sprockets are punch marks on teeth, while timing marks on chain are plated links.
4. Align crankshaft sprocket plated link with punch mark on sprocket.
5. Position chain on crankshaft sprocket, then install oil pump sprocket and silent shaft sprockets on their respective shafts.
6. Install oil pump and silent shaft sprocket screws and torque to 25 ft. lbs.
7. Install three chain guides. Snug tighten retaining bolts.
8. Refer to Fig. 12 and adjust silent shaft chain tension as follows:
a. Tighten chain guide ``A'' mounting screws.
b. Tighten chain guide ``C'' mounting screws.
c. Shake oil pump and silent shaft sprockets to collect slack at point ``P.''
d. Adjust position of chain guide ``B'' so that when chain is pulled in direction of arrow ``F,'' clearance between chain guide ``B'' and chain links will be .4 - .14 in. Tighten chain guide ``B'' mounting screws.
9. Install new gasket on chain case, coat gasket with suitable sealant, then install chain case to block and torque attaching screws to 156 in. lbs.
