DISASSEMBLY








1. Remove differential bearing cones (ring gear and diff. case side) using Tool C-293-PA, Adapters C-293-45, and Tool 4996 (Fig. 68) (Fig. 69).





2. Remove ring gear-to-case bolts (Fig. 70). Discard and use NEW bolts upon assembly.








3. Using a suitable screwdriver, pry off speedometer drive gear (Fig. 71) (Fig. 72).








4. Using hammer and suitable punch, remove pinion shaft retaining pin (Fig. 73) (Fig. 74).





5. Remove pinion shaft (Fig. 75).








6. Remove pinion gears, side gears, and thrust washers (Fig. 76) (Fig. 77).
