Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Service and Repair

REMOVAL

WARNING: DO NOT OPEN COOLING SYSTEM WHEN HOT AND UNDER PRESSURE, SERIOUS BURNS FROM COOLANT CAN OCCUR.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable from battery.
2. Raise vehicle on hoist.
3. Open radiator draincock and partially drain cooling system below the level of the upper radiator hose.
4. Close radiator draincock after partial cooling system drain.
5. Lower vehicle
6. Remove the front engine compartment supports and upper radiator crossmember.
7. Remove upper radiator hose.
8. Disconnect Manifold Tune Valve electrical connector.
9. Remove Manifold Tune Valve.
10. Disconnect ECT sensor electrical connector.
11. Unscrew ECT sensor from lower intake manifold.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: A new ECT sensor has thread sealant applied to threads. If reinstalling a used sensor, apply Mopar thread sealer (or equivalent) to ECT sensor threads.

1. Thread ECT sensor into lower intake manifold. Tighten sensor to 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
2. Connect ECT sensor electrical connector.
3. Install Manifold Tune Valve.
4. Connect Manifold Tune Valve electrical connector.
5. Install upper radiator hose.
6. Install upper radiator crossmember and front engine compartment supports.
7. Fill cooling system.
8. Connect negative battery cable to battery.
9. Operate engine until it reaches normal operating temperature and the cooling fan has cycled once. Check coolant in pressure bottle for correct level.
