Heat Shield: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION

CAUTION: Avoid application of rust prevention compounds or undercoating materials to exhaust system floor pan heat shield on cars if equipped. Light over-spray near the edges is permitted. Application of coating will greatly reduce the efficiency of the heat shields resulting in excessive floor pan temperatures and objectionable fumes.

Heat shields (1) are needed to protect both the vehicle and the environment, such as wiring, from the high temperatures developed in the vicinity of the catalytic converter.

Heat shields (1) also protect the floor pan from the high temperatures developed in the vicinity of the catalytic converter.

Heat shields (2) are also used to insulate the vehicle and the environment from the high temperatures developed by other portions of the exhaust system.
