Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Procedures

REMOVAL

1. Locate the particulate air filter door (1) on the bottom of the HVAC housing (4) near the glove box area.
2. Slide the air filter door latch (2) from the closed stop (3) toward the rear of the vehicle until it contacts the open stop (5).
3. Pull the air filter door straight downward to disengage it from the HVAC housing.
4. Reach through the opening of the HVAC housing and pull the particulate air filter element straight downward and out of the HVAC housing.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: The particulate air filter is labeled with Airflow and an arrow to indicate air flow direction through the filter. This arrow should always be oriented towards the center of the vehicle. Make sure to properly install the particulate air filter. Failure to properly install the filter will result in the need to replace the filter sooner than required by design.

1. Install the particulate air filter into the filter opening in the bottom of the HVAC housing (4). Insert the particulate air filter directly into the housing with the arrow on the filter pointing to the center of the vehicle.
2. With the air filter door latch (2) still positioned against the open stop (5), install the air filter door (1) onto the bottom of the HVAC housing.
3. Slide the air filter door latch toward the front of the vehicle until it contacts the closed stop (3) on the door.
