Catalytic Converter - Removal







3.8L ENGINE




CATALYTIC CONVERTER - 3.3/3.8L





WARNING: The normal operating temperature of the exhaust system is very high. Therefore, never work around or attempt to service any part of the exhaust system until it is cooled. Special care should be taken when working near the catalytic converter. The temperature of the converter rises to a high level after a short period of engine operation time.

1. Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Disconnect downstream oxygen sensor electrical connector.
4. Remove flange bolts at exhaust manifold. Remove and discard gasket.
5. Remove loosen band clamp.
6. Separate the catalytic converter from muffler.
7. Remove catalytic converter from vehicle.
8. Remove downstream oxygen sensor from catalytic converter.
9. Clean ends of the catalytic converter and muffler to assure mating of all parts. Discard broken or worn insulators, rusted clamps, supports and attaching parts. When replacement is required on any component of the exhaust system, it is important that original equipment parts (or equivalent) be used.
