Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove fuel tank filler cap.
3. Position a suitable container under fuel filter.
4. Using a back-up wrench, slowly and carefully loosen fuel line to fuel filter union bolts and fittings. Position a shop towel over fuel connection when loosening to prevent fuel spraying.
5. Disconnect fuel lines from fuel filter, Fig. 45
6. Remove fuel filter bracket attaching bolts, then remove fuel filter.
7. Reverse procedure to install. When installing fuel line union bolts, tighten finger tight, then torque to 25.3 to 32.5 ft. lbs. When installing fuel line fittings, tighten finger tight, then torque to 25.3 to 31.8 ft. lbs. After completing installation, start engine and check connections for leakage.
