SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Engine overheating may occur on subject model vehicles during high ambient temperature stop and go city driving or after prolonged periods of idling.
DIAGNOSIS
Vehicles which exhibit this overheating condition will require the installation of one of two available service kits incorporating a T.I.C. (Temperature Idle Compensating) valve to increase idle cooling capacity.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Package #1 PN 4397668 For Vehicles With Valve in Upper Radiator Hose
1. MODIFY HOSE HARNESS, PN 4306277 AS DESCRIBED BELOW:
A. Remove and discard convolute cover on harness.
B. Cut the top vacuum hose with the 3/16" x 3/16" connector to 39" on D and W models and 35" on B model vans. Remove the 3/16" connector from the cut piece of hose and insert connector into shortened hose on harness. Discard excess hose.
C. Cut the bottom vacuum hose with the 1/8" x 1/8" x 1/8" "tee" connector and the 2" hose to 39" on D and W models and 35" on B model vans. Remove the "tee" connector from the cut piece of hose and insert it into the shortened hose on the harness. Discard excess hose.
D. Cut the center vacuum hose to 39" on D and W models and 35" on B model vans and discard excess hose.
E. Drain and save coolant to a level below that of the thermostat.
FIGURE 1 - Installation Instructions:
F. Remove the indicated plug from the intake manifold hole next to the thermostat housing (Figure 1).
G. Remove the harness connector from the CCEVS valve forward of the plug just removed (Figure 1). Remove the CCEVS valve from this hole (Figure 1).
H. Assemble the 3/8" x 3/8" brass adaptor supplied in kit to CCEVS just removed. Use Mopar Thread Sealant With Teflon, PN 4318034.
I. Install the CCEVS valve and brass adaptor assembly into the hole next to the thermostat housing, where the plug was removed in Step 3 above. Use Mopar Thread Sealant With Teflon, PN 4318034. Orient the CCEVS nipples on the valve toward the rear of the vehicle and torque to 35 foot pounds (Figure 1). Reinstall CCEVS connector on valve.
J. Insert T.I.C. Valve, PN 4268712, into the hole vacated by the CCEVS. Use Mopar Thread Sealant With Teflon, PN 4318034. Orient the nipples toward the rear of the vehicle and torque to 35 foot pounds (Figure 1). Connect the T.I.C. Valve Harness, PN 4306277, to the T.I.C. valve.
2. ROUTING OF VACUUM HOSES
A. Route vacuum hoses around the front of the carburetor to the right side of the engine.
D & W Models
Using Tie Strap, PN 6015756, strap the vacuum hoses to the heater hose approximately 4" forward of the water valve. Continue with the vacuum hoses to the rear of the engine, following the heater hoses. Using Tie Strap, PN 6015756, attach the vacuum harness hoses to the heater hose approximately 5" aft of the water valve.
B Model Vans
Route the vacuum hoses to the back of the engine, routing the tubes under the rear engine electrical clip on the right rocker cover. Route underneath the fuel lines.
FIGURE 2 - PACKAGE #1, P/N4397668 FOR VEHICLES WITH VALVE IN UPPER RADIATOR HOSE:
3. CONNECTING VACUUM HOSES (REFER TO FIGURE 2 FOR DETAIL)
A. Disconnect the vacuum hose presently connected to the distributor and connect it to the top hose from the T.I.C. valve hose harness with the 3/16" x 3/16" connector.
B. Attach the middle hose of the T.I.C. harness without any connectors to the distributor vacuum advance nipple.
C. Disconnect the 1/8" vacuum hose from the vacuum tree and connect this hose to the remaining (lower) vacuum "tee" on the T.I.C. valve harness. Then connect the free hose (from "tee") to the open nipple on the vacuum tree.
NOTE: IF THE 1/8" VACUUM TREE NIPPLE IS NOT IN USE, PULL THE RUBBER CAP OFF VACUUM TREE NIPPLE, REMOVE THE HARNESS "TEE" CONNECTOR AND 2" HOSE, AND CONNECT THE FREE HOSE TO THE VACUUM TREE NIPPLE.
D. Refill cooling system with coolant saved in Step E above.
E. Start engine and allow to warm up.
F. Check for coolant and vacuum leaks, repair as required.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Package #2, PN 4397669 For Vehicles Without Valve In Upper Radiator Hose
1. T.I.C. VALVE INSTALLATION
A. Drain cooling system to level below upper radiator hose. Save coolant.
B. Modify upper radiator hose as described below:
D Model Truck
Cut upper radiator hose 3-1/2" on 1981 and 1982 model year, 8" on 1983-1984- 1985 model year, from radiator end.
